Airport layover in Charlotte made me rethink the whole 'arrive 2 hours early' rule
Flew through Charlotte Douglas last Tuesday and had a 1 hour layover. Landed at gate B12, next flight was gate A28, 45 minutes to make it. I sprinted through that terminal, got to security line that snaked forever, and somehow made it with 4 minutes to spare. Meanwhile the guy next to me on the plane said he always shows up 90 minutes before boarding and still waits around bored. How is it fair that some airports need 3 hours and others 20 minutes? I've missed flights in Atlanta with a 2 hour buffer but this time I was fine. Has anyone else figured out which airports are actually time traps vs easy money?
Oh man, Charlotte is sneaky like that with the gate jumps between concourses. Here's the thing though, it's not just the airport, it's the day and time too. Tuesday mid-morning is way easier than a Sunday evening, and you got lucky with that 4 minutes. I've started checking how many flights leave in the same window before I book, because a packed airport does way more damage than the layout ever will.
