Warning: my 8 year old asked if chicken noodle soup is just cereal with meat and I haven't recovered
Last Tuesday at dinner my 8 year old looked at her bowl of chicken noodle and asked why nobody calls it cereal since it's got broth and chunks in a bowl. I tried to explain the hot vs cold thing and realized I didn't have a real answer, just vibes. Then my 5 year old said clam chowder is basically oatmeal and honestly I couldn't argue with that either. Now the whole house is rethinking everything and my partner wants to ban soup talk at the table. Where do you all draw the line, is it temp, is it spoon texture, or is there some rule I'm missing?
The bowl is the real common thread here. Cereal, soup, oatmeal, chili, all of it is just stuff floating in liquid that you eat with a spoon. Your kid basically found the loophole in how we name food.
