My grandmother's gazpacho rule finally makes sense after 20 years

Back in 2003, my grandmother told me that gazpacho is just cold soup and cereal with milk is just cold cereal, so neither counts as the other. I laughed at her that summer in Toledo, Ohio, because I thought she was just being stubborn. Last month I made a peach soup with cinnamon and cream, and it hit me that she was right about the temperature line being the real divider. I've spent two decades arguing about tomato chunks and milk ratios, but she always kept it simple. Now I draw my boundary at hot versus cold, and it settles every debate at the table. Anyone else have a family member whose food logic aged better than you expected?
