Why does nobody check the tack strip gauge before power stretching?
Just fixed a 600 sq ft job in Denver where the last guy set the strips 2 inches off the wall, so the carpet buckled right at the transition and now I'm wondering how many other installers skip this step, am I the only one who measures every single room?

You ever measure a room and realize you've been eyeballing it like it's a steak at a cookout? I've definitely been that guy, set strips where I felt like it and then spent three hours cussing at a ripple that looked like the Rocky Mountains. Now I carry a tape measure like it's a security blanket, but I still catch myself doing quick math in my head and hoping for the best sometimes. The worst part is when you pull up the old carpet and see the previous installer's "close enough" marks staring back at you like a bad tattoo. I've had to redo so many tack strips that I'm starting to think I'm the only one who actually reads the gauge before I start sweating over a power stretcher.
