Warning: That easy strip and glue job last Tuesday nearly cost me my knee

I pulled up this old berber carpet from a 1970s basement in Springfield and found a rusty box cutter blade buried right under the padding that shot up through my kneepad when I leaned down, so has anyone else found random sharp junk hiding under old carpet layers?

Did that blade go all the way through the kneepad? I've found nails and staples but never a full blade, that's scary.

Yeah that blade going through the kneepad is no joke. I remember pulling up some shag carpet out of a old house in Eugene and found a whole sewing needle stuck straight up through the pad like a little spike. My wife still jokes I'm gonna find a buried treasure one of these days but so far it's just rusty junk and lost toys.

Actually I'm gonna push back on that a little. Finding a sewing needle in shag carpet is pretty tame compared to some of the stuff people pull out of old houses. You're basically just complaining about a minor inconvenience while the carpet guy in the post had a blade go through his kneepad. Thats like comparing a papercut to a stabbing. And your wife joking about buried treasure, thats kind of a sweet way to look at it honestly. You could be finding way worse things like asbestos or lead paint chips.
