Took a chance on that $20 seam roller from the hardware store, honestly impressed

Been using the same metal seam roller for like 8 years. Dropped it on a job in Tulsa last month and the handle cracked. Picked up a cheap plastic handled one just to finish the day, figured I'd replace it proper later. That thing hasn't let me down yet. Grip is actually better, doesn't slip when my hands get sweaty. Rolled out a 12 foot seam on some thick berber and it held up fine. I know it's a small thing but I've been burned by cheap tools before. Anyone else found a budget tool that surprised them?

Ever notice how the cheap stuff usually fails right when you need it most, but sometimes it just works? I had a similar thing with a $15 orbital sander from a discount store, figured it would be a throwaway for one project. That was three years ago, still runs smooth and honestly feels better balanced than my buddy's expensive one. Part of me thinks they just don't try as hard on the mid-price stuff, so the cheap stuff either sucks or is secretly great. Guess the real trick is knowing when to gamble.
