That YouTube video about carpet patterns made me recheck a house in Dayton

I was killing time on my phone and saw this guy claiming that diagonal patterns hide seams better than straight lays, so he basically talked down the stretch-in method. Tried it on a 14x18 room last weekend in Dayton and the seams were way more visible, even with a good power stretcher. Maybe his trick works on commercial grade, but on residential 8-pound pad it was a headache. Has anyone else found that pattern direction advice online just flat out fails in real rooms?
