That Home Depot return counter conversation hit close to home
I was grabbing tack strips last Tuesday and overheard a guy returning a carpet pad that was clearly cut wrong, he kept saying the floor was uneven. The clerk asked him if he had a straightedge and a chalk line, and the guy just stared at him. It got me thinking about how many callbacks come from folks not checking the subfloor first. I have done maybe 40 jobs this year and only one had a truly flat slab, the rest needed some kind of leveling. How do you guys handle homeowners who argue that the pad will fix a dip? Has anyone else dealt with that at the return desk or on site?

Tbh that clerk had more patience than my last customer who blamed the rug for her cracked foundation.
