Kneedown seam cutter bit the dust mid-job last Friday
I was about halfway through seaming a 12 foot wide stretch of carpet in a living room in Golden when my seam cutter just locked up. The blade wouldn't spin at all and I could hear the bearing grinding inside. Tried spraying some WD-40 on it but that didn't do anything. Ended up having to drive 20 minutes to the nearest supply house to grab a replacement. Cost me about 45 bucks and lost almost an hour of work time. The old one was only about 8 months old so I'm kinda ticked about that. Has anyone else had a seam cutter fail that quick or did I just get a lemon?

Did you buy it from a big box store or a proper supply house? The ones I've seen fail fast are usually the cheaper models from the home centers, the bearings are junk. I had a Roberts that lasted maybe 9 months before the blade started wobbling, switched to a Crain and it's been solid for two years now. You might be able to get it warrantied if you still have the receipt, worth checking.

Bought a Crain after my Roberts locked up at 10 months. Night and day difference honestly. That old one sat in my garage for a year before I tossed it.
