Guy I trained last month asked why we still use knee kickers

Last month I was showing a new guy how to stretch carpet in a 12x15 bedroom in an old colonial, and he asked me why we don't just use power stretchers for everything. I told him you can't use a power stretcher in a closet or along a tight stair landing that's 3 feet wide. Has anyone else noticed new guys don't even know what a knee kicker is for?

Haven't these guys ever tried stretching carpet in a tight hallway or a closet? You can't fit a power stretcher in a 2 foot wide space. That little knee kicker is the only tool that works for those spots and around pipes too. Plus you don't even need to adjust it every few feet like a power stretcher. I swear some of these new guys think you just roll carpet out and it magically fits. They don't get that you gotta beat it into shape with your knee sometimes.
