Debate: Is it worth buying a used power stretcher or should you just rent one?

I wasted $150 on a used power stretcher from a guy on Craigslist and the head was so worn down it popped off mid-job. Been using rentals for $40 a day since then but I hate the extra trip to the supply house.

My buddy bought a used one and it snapped on the first carpet...

Honestly, "snapped on the first carpet" is exactly why I stopped buying used ones too.
