A homeowner in Tacoma told me my seams were too obvious
I was finishing a big living room job last Tuesday and the client pointed at a seam near the fireplace. She said, 'I can see a line there when the light hits it, can you fix that?' I've been installing for eight years and honestly thought my seams were fine. I went back with my Roberts hot glue gun and spent an extra hour really working the fibers together with a carpet rake. It made a huge difference. Now I check every seam with a flashlight from different angles before I call it done. Has anyone else had a client point out something you thought was good enough?

That "eye level" check sounds brutal, but it sure beats a callback.

You know that old saying about the customer being the inspector? I read a forum post ages ago where a guy said his final quality check is to get on his hands and knees and sight down the seam like a pool cue. Sounds over the top, but after your story, maybe he's onto something. Light plays tricks, and what looks flat from standing up can look like a canyon from the wrong angle. That extra hour with the rake probably saved you a nasty review.

Totally feel you on the "thought it was good enough" thing. Had a lady last month get down on the floor to look across a seam at eye level, said she could feel a slight ridge. I was sure it was flat but she was right, had to go back and work it way more.
