Shoutout to the old guy at Home Depot who told me to use a pull saw instead of a circular saw for baseboards
He just walked up while I was staring at the blades, grabbed a $18 pull saw off the rack, and said 'trust me, you'll thank me after the first cut.' Tbh I was skeptical but after trimming 3 rooms of baseboards in under an hour with zero splintering, I owe that guy a coffee. Has anyone else had a random stranger save them from making a dumb tool choice?

The Home Depot guy saved me from the exact same mistake last year, now I won't use anything but a pull saw for trim work. Solid advice from a random stranger can be such a lifesaver.

My buddy tried a circular saw on his baseboards once, ended up with a mangled mess and a bad back.

Circular saws are a perfect example of people grabbing the biggest tool they have instead of thinking about what actually works for the job. It happens all the time at hardware stores too watching folks load up on a framing nailer for trim work when a finish nailer would do better. A miter saw with a sharp blade makes baseboards look easy, especially if you cut them upside down so the good side is facing up. Sometimes the right tool is just a lot simpler than what seems like the powerful choice.
