Just realized my mistake after talking to a framer at a job site in Wichita

I was bitching about how long it takes to scribe baseboards for old plaster walls, and this guy named Jerry just looked at me and said, 'You're trying to be too perfect, just use a contour gauge.' I'd been fighting with a block plane for three hours. Made me rethink my whole approach to coping joints (and maybe my stubbornness). Has anyone else had a random stranger's tip totally change how you work?

Jerry sounds like a real one for that advice.

Respectfully, I gotta disagree a bit - sometimes that straight talk lands different than they think it will.

Got a buddy named Dave who gave me the exact same talk a few years back when I was going through it with my ex. He just sat me down, no sugarcoating, told me flat out what I needed to hear but didn't want to listen to. Changed my whole way of looking at things, just like Jerry did for you.
