Just hit 5000 hours on my miter saw and the motor started making a weird noise
I track my tool hours for taxes and this Makita LS1019L gave out right after the big number. It's a clear sign the brushes are probably shot, which is a cheap fix if you catch it early. Anyone else have a tool that failed right after a big hour mark?

My old shop teacher called that a "milestone failure." He had a Bridgeport mill that threw a bearing at exactly 10,000 hours. His theory was the vibration from the hour meter's little gears clicking over that final digit was just enough to push a worn part over the edge. Probably an old wives' tale, but it stuck with me.

Honestly, that story from @simon_coleman feels totally true. I had a truck odometer roll over to 200,000 miles and the alternator died that same week. It's like the machine knows and just gives up. My buddy's water heater made it to ten years on the dot before it leaked everywhere. Makes you wonder if there's a tiny clock in everything just waiting to stop.

Yeah everything's got a built-in timer, seems like appliances just know when the warranty expires.
