Hot take: I realized I was over-sanding everything for years
Last week a guy at the lumberyard told me I was wasting half my time sanding joints that would be covered by trim anyway. He showed me a $5 scraper that got the job done in 2 minutes instead of 20 with the orbital sander. Anybody else been doing some stupid time-wasting habit they just noticed?

You ever have a buddy who sands every single drywall joint like he's prepping a show car? My friend Mike spent three weekends on his basement before his old man came over and just started mudding right over the rough spots. Mike was pissed but honestly it looked fine.

Three weekends on a basement is impressive dedication to something nobody's going to inspect with a magnifying glass. Mike's old man probably figured the dust alone was a good enough reason to skip the sanding. At some point you gotta ask yourself if the drywall needs to be perfect or if you just need to finish before your kids grow up and move out.

The whole "just start mudding over it" approach is honestly underrated. Most people are never gonna notice a slightly imperfect joint from five feet away especially in a dim basement with a drop ceiling. The time you save by not sanding every speck of dust is the time you get back for things that actually matter.
