Warning: My cubicle neighbor's life advice came from a fortune cookie wall
I sit next to a guy named Tom who has taped about 40 fortune cookie slips to the wall of his cubicle. Last week he told me to "pursue a new direction for career growth" and pointed at one that said "a fresh path brings opportunity." I asked where he got it and he said Panda Express on Tuesday. I'm not sure if I should take advice from a cookie or not. Has anyone else gotten solid direction from a really random source like that?

Did Tom at least get the cookie that says "the fortune you seek is in another cookie"? That would be honest. I once got career advice from a guy in my building's elevator who I only knew by his dog's name. He told me to stop waiting for permission and I just started applying for better jobs without telling anyone. It actually worked out okay.

My cousin once quit their job because a horoscope on a napkin said "time for a change" and now they run a successful food truck, so maybe Tom is onto something. Funny enough, that napkin came from a gas station burrito, which is way less inspiring than Panda Express.
