That Tuesday afternoon I learned paper resumes still matter to some people
I spent 3 years thinking networking alone would get me through any job hunt. I focused on LinkedIn and coffee chats and ignored my actual resume file. Then last month I applied to a company in Austin and the recruiter told me my resume got flagged for missing basic info like dates. I had left off the month and year on a couple roles because I figured they would just check my profile. That rejection stung way more than it should have. I realized I was letting my dislike for formal paperwork hurt my chances. Now I spend maybe 20 minutes updating my resume before I send out anything. Has anyone else found that old school cover letters actually work for certain industries?

UGH I actually disagree pretty hard on this one. Resume basics like dates are the bare minimum that shows you care about your application. Cover letters can definitely help in more traditional fields like law or government where people actually read them.

Honestly it's wild how basic stuff like that gets treated like a huge ask.

Is it though? Feels like we're overthinking a simple job application.
