Showerthought: I thought the 'always negotiate your salary' advice was just talk until I asked for 5k more and got it.

My old boss in Denver told me 'the worst they can say is no' and after 2 years at the same pay, I finally tried it and they agreed on the spot, so has anyone else had a moment where a simple ask actually worked?

That "worst they can say is no" line is SO true. I read this article once that said most companies actually have a range budgeted for a role, and the first offer is rarely the top. It's wild how much money people leave on the table just by not asking. Good on you for speaking up, two years is way too long to go without a bump.
