Question about the real number of job applications it takes to get hired

I was reading a report from a hiring site last week, and it said the average person sends out over 200 applications before landing a job. I was shocked, lmao. I thought maybe 50 or 60 was a lot. I've been looking for a new marketing role for about two months now and I'm only at 75, so I guess I'm way behind. It made me feel a little better about not hearing back yet, but also kind of tired just thinking about it. The report broke it down by field too, and tech was even higher. Has anyone else seen stats like this, or is my search just moving slower than I thought?

That report is brutal. Bettys51 has the right idea, but my cover letters all start to sound the same after application number ten.

That report sounds about right from what I've seen. Honestly, focusing on quality over quantity helped me a lot. I started tailoring my cover letter to each job's main requirement, which got me more interviews than just blasting out generic applications. The process is a grind, but a more targeted approach can make those 75 applications feel more productive.

Tailoring every single cover letter sounds like a huge time sink though. How much difference does it really make when most jobs get hundreds of apps? Feels like luck plays a bigger part than we admit.
