My old foreman told me 'the customer's always right' is a lie
He pulled me aside in the shop bay after a guy yelled at me for a $90 diagnostic fee. He said, 'You know what you're doing, and they're paying for that. Don't let anyone talk down your work.' Ever since then, I charge for my time without feeling bad. How do you guys handle customers who question your rates?

Stick to your rate and explain it once. If they keep pushing, just repeat yourself calmly. They usually back down when they see you won't budge, right?

My buddy who does freelance computer repair had a client flip out over a $75 flat fee for a virus removal. He just said, "That's the rate for the job, it took me an hour and a half of my know-how." The guy paid, and actually called him back for more work later.
