Just realized temping is better than a full time office job for me
I spent two years in a dental office as a full time assistant and thought I hated the work. Turns out I just hated being stuck in the same chair with the same drama every day. Last month I started temping at three different clinics and the difference is night and day. I set my own schedule, I get paid more per hour, and if a place has bad vibes I just don't go back. Plus I get to see how other offices run their sterilization and scheduling which gives me ideas. The only downside is no benefits but I found a cheap health plan through the state. Has anyone else switched to temping in a field where they thought they were burnt out?

Temping was the best thing I ever did after leaving a permanent dental assisting job. The freedom to walk away from toxic offices without notice saved my mental health big time. I started picking up shifts at a few different clinics and realized I was way more skilled than I gave myself credit for. Learning different sterilization setups and patient flow tricks made me actually enjoy the work again. The pay bump was nice too because temp agencies usually offer higher rates to fill spots fast. Just make sure you keep a little money aside for taxes at the end of the year, that's one thing nobody warned me about.

oh for real, @holly_sanchez75 hit it right on the head with the tax thing. i made that mistake my first year temping and it stung bad when april rolled around lol. another thing that helped me was keeping a little notebook in my bag to jot down which offices had the best systems or the chillest vibes, so i could book more shifts there and avoid the chaotic ones. and honestly, being able to just bounce from a place where the dentist was rude or the staff was cliquey without giving two weeks notice was a lifesaver. it really does make you realize your own worth when you see how different clinics run and you're like "wait, i can handle this no problem.
