I used to think networking events were a total waste of time, but I changed my mind after a 3-month experiment

I forced myself to go to one every week for 3 months and tracked the results, and getting a solid lead on a project bid from a random conversation at a chamber mixer changed everything. Has anyone else found that specific type of event makes the difference, or is it just luck?

Honestly, a buddy of mine got his best gig from just chatting at a boring lunch thing.

Oh totally, @shaneb16, that's exactly how I landed my favorite freelance project too - just awkward small talk at a work party turned into a six month contract. It's wild how the best stuff happens when you're not even trying.

Yes! That's exactly how I got my best ongoing client too, just rambling about a TV show at a neighborhood BBQ and boom, they hired me the next week.
