I read a stat that 70% of people who ask for a raise get one, so I finally tried it
I saw that number in a career newsletter from a site called The Muse last Tuesday and it stuck with me all week. I had been putting off the talk with my manager for 8 months because I was sure it would go bad, but I asked on Friday and got a 6% bump. Has anyone else seen that stat, and did it actually work for you too?
That number sounds about right from what I have seen. A buddy of mine sat on the idea for over a year, convinced his boss would laugh him out of the room, and when he finally brought it up the guy basically said he was wondering when he would ask. He got around 8% and said the whole thing took maybe ten minutes. The waiting is always worse than the talk itself.
