Hit 5 years at the same help desk job and it finally hit me
I was just updating a ticket number #48291 for a printer jam and realized I've been doing this exact same job since 2019. That's over 1,800 days of resetting passwords and clearing cache. The scary part is I never noticed because the paycheck kept coming. Has anyone else looked up one day and realized they've been coasting way longer than they planned?

Are you actually scared to see what else is out there or just comfortable?

Oh come on @rowan725, it's not about being scared. It's more that the devil you know beats a mystery box most days. Why risk a headache when you already got a decent setup going?

Last year I hit my 4 year mark at a similar gig and what broke me out of it was taking a single online certification class on my own time. Nothing fancy, just something to prove to myself I could still learn stuff. The funny thing is @leelewis is kinda right about the devil you know being tempting, but for me the real trick was just moving to a different kind of support role in the same company. I kept my pay and my benefits but I'm actually solving different problems now instead of the same printer jam over and over. Maybe ask your boss if there's a cross training program or a different team you could shadow for a day, just to see if that shakes something loose.
