Went to a salvage yard in Phoenix yesterday and noticed every single car under 10 years old had the same transmission failure pattern

I counted 14 cars with smashed front ends that all had the same snapped CV axle on the passenger side, so if you're looking at a used Honda or Nissan from 2015-2020 in Arizona, check that joint before you buy or you'll be junking the whole thing in 6 months like everyone else out here.

CV axle snap is actually pretty different from a transmission failure though. Those are two totally separate parts of the drivetrain. A snapped CV joint means your axle gave out, not your transmission. You're right that it's a common problem on those models in the heat but it's a way cheaper fix than a trans rebuild. Usually it's just the rubber boot drying out and cracking from the AZ sun, then dirt gets in and grinds the joint down.

Man, you just described exactly what happened to my buddy Mark last summer! He blew a CV joint on his 2015 Accord in Phoenix and was freaking out thinking his transmission was toast, but @the_fiona is spot on about it being a totally different and way cheaper fix. His mechanic had it swapped out for like $300 while a transmission job would've been ten times that.
