Tried fixing a cracked radiator with epoxy on my 97 Civic

Drove 12 miles before it started spraying coolant everywhere again. Learned that $8 repair kits are just wishful thinking when the crack is 4 inches long. Anyone else fall for this or did I just pick the wrong brand?

Yeah no kidding @the_jenny hit it on the head about winter temps too. I tried the same thing on my old Accord, followed all the steps perfect, and it gave out after like two weeks of daily driving. Some of these fixes just aren't meant to last long term...

Blame the brand, not the concept. JB Weld has held up on my buddy's rusted-out F-150 radiator for two years now. You probably just grabbed whatever was cheapest at the auto parts store instead of spending the extra $4 on the marine-grade stuff with the metal filling. A 4-inch crack is pushing it, but if you roughed up the surface with sandpaper and layered it on thick, it could've lasted. Next time, clean it with acetone first and let it cure for 24 hours not just the 1 hour the tube says.

Doubt it'll hold two years on a real daily driver in winter temps.
