TIL that hot glue on a cracked radiator hose can get you 20 miles home
My buddy Dave in a AutoZone parking lot in Tucson told me to shove a bolt in the hose and wrap it with electrical tape after I laughed at him for suggesting it, and I drove that 87 Civic home without overheating, so now I wonder what other half-baked fixes actually work well enough to call a car a treasure.

He called it a treasure" is generous. I once got 30 miles out of a Chevy S10 by packing the radiator with egg whites and oatmeal because I saw it in a YouTube video. It smelled like a diner fire for a week, but it got me to the parts store. My personal masterpiece was a crankshaft position sensor held in place with zip ties and a wad of gum that lasted six months. At this point I'm pretty sure my car runs on pure spite and whatever is in the bottom of my glovebox.

Ha, that's incredible! @eric_murray26 the oatmeal trick is legendary. I had a similar moment with my old '91 Civic where the alternator bracket snapped about 20 miles from home. I propped it up with a twisted metal coat hanger and a few rubber bands from the mail. It held for almost three months before I finally got around to fixing it properly. The smell of burning rubber every time I hit a bump was honestly part of the charm. Cars on a budget really bring out the mad scientist in all of us.
