That time my 2002 Civic's alternator died on I-35 in rush hour
Honestly, I was stuck in stop and go traffic near downtown Austin last Tuesday and the battery light flickered on. Then the radio cut out, power steering got heavy, and my dash dimmed like a old flashlight. I coasted to a gas station off the exit and called a buddy to grab a reman alternator from O'Reilly for $110. Was it worth fixing or should I have just junked the car? Has anyone else dealt with a alternator failure at the worst possible moment?

Nothing worse than your car dying in Austin traffic, glad you made it out okay.

My transmission blew on I-35 last summer, thought I was gonna die.

Dude, of course it was worth fixing. A 2002 Civic is basically a cockroach with wheels, it'll run forever if you take care of it. Dumping $110 on an alternator is nothing compared to buying a new used shitbox that could have its own problems. I've had an alternator die on me in a parking lot at 11pm during a thunderstorm, so I get the timing sucks. You did the right thing calling your buddy and getting it swapped. That car will probably outlast your next two cars if you keep up with the basics.
