That time I found out I was washing my car with dish soap for 2 years straight

So I’ve been using this big bottle of Dawn to wash my car every weekend since I got my old Civic in 2020. I thought hey, it works on greasy pans so it must be great for road grime (which, looking back, is a pretty dumb leap). Last month my buddy Dan saw me with the suds and just started laughing. He told me dish soap strips all the wax and leaves the paint totally naked. I checked the forums later and yeah, I basically ruined my clear coat. Now I’m staring at a $300 detail job for a car I bought for $1500. Has anyone else made a similar cleaning mistake that cost them down the line?
