Talked to a scrapyard guy about a 2003 Honda with a blown head gasket

He straight up said fixing it would cost more than the car's worth and suggested I just grab a $900 Corolla from his lot instead. Has anyone here actually repaired a head gasket on an old Honda and not regretted dumping the cash into it?

Did that $900 Corolla have a good service history or was it just sitting in his lot looking clean on the outside? I know a guy who bought a similar deal and the transmission grenaded three weeks later, so you gotta dig into the details. What's the mileage and rust situation on that Corolla, because that could make or break the whole thing.

Right angle would be checking if the dealer even had the title clean. Some of these cheap lots buy flood cars and scrub the history, so that $900 Corolla might have been underwater in a hurricane before it hit his lot.
