Took my 2004 Corolla in for an oil leak and the guy looked at the dash, laughed, and said "keep driving." That was it. No upsell, no list of doom. I had $1,400 saved up to fix the bumper dent and the cracked radio screen, figuring the car was on its way out. He told me the engine and trans were solid and the dent was cosmetic, so I spent $220 on a timing belt check instead and put the rest in a coffee can for tires. Now I'm second guessing myself. Do I fix the ugly stuff on a car worth maybe $2,500, or just run it into the ground and enjoy the lack of a car payment? What's the mileage where you all stop putting money into a beater?
