Overheard a guy at the junk yard say his Accord runs on prayers and zip ties
I was pulling a fender off a 98 Civic at Pull-A-Part in Tulsa last Saturday and this dude next to me was yanking an alternator out of a beat up Accord. He told me his own Accord at home has 280k miles on it with a zip-tied bumper cover and a Check Engine light that's been on since 2017. He said he's not fixing anything unless the wheels literally fall off. Made me wonder - where's the line between a daily driver and a total beater that's just not worth touching anymore? Have you guys ever hit a point where you just gave up on fixing stuff and drove it into the ground?

Does your Accord have the sacred Zip Tie of Unstoppable Faith like @alice336's memories suggest? Because I'm pretty sure my old Camry is held together by pure stubbornness and a prayer I whisper every time I start it. I hit that point about three months ago when the check engine light started flashing like a disco ball and I just shrugged and turned up the radio. The driver's side window doesn't roll down anymore but honestly that just saves me from having to talk to people at drive thrus. I figure as long as it starts and doesn't leave me stranded on the highway it's still a daily driver not a beater. The real line is when you start carrying a spare battery and a can of fix-a-flat everywhere you go.

That car's worth more than the zip ties holding it together if you add up the memories.
