My '87 F-150 just hit 300,000 miles on the original transmission
I bought this truck from a farmer in Nebraska five years ago for $1,800. The body has more rust than paint and the heater only works on high. But I've just kept up with fluid changes and never beat on it. It finally rolled over to 300,000 miles yesterday on my way to the feed store. I'm honestly shocked because I figured the transmission would have given out by 250k. Has anyone else had a high mileage work truck that just refuses to die?

300,000 miles on a farm truck that never saw heavy towing is actually the perfect recipe for that kind of life. Farms don't exactly have heat cycles or stop-and-go traffic, they just idle forever and run steady.

Yeah, okay, impressive number no doubt, but a lot of these old Fords had tough drivetrains if you treated them right. Keeping up with fluid changes on a farm truck that never saw heavy towing is more about maintenance than luck. I wouldn't call it a miracle, just a well cared for piece of equipment that finally got some credit.

kept up with fluid changes"?? Dude that truck had 500k on it, not 50k. Ive seen guys change oil every 3k like clockwork and still blow a trans at 150k. Call it luck or whatever but getting a quarter million miles past what most people scrape by with is straight up insane. My buddy's 7.3 blew a head gasket at 180k and he babied that thing. This isnt just "good maintenance" territory, this is some kind of freak durability.
