I used to always say fix it, but a trip to the local pick-n-pull made me rethink

Stopped by Pull-A-Part in Nashville last weekend to grab a taillight for my truck. Walked around and saw three cars that had perfectly good engines and transmissions but were stripped for parts because the owners gave up on them. Ended up realizing that sometimes the labor cost just isn't worth it, especially on a 98 Civic with rusted frame rails. Has anyone else found a car they thought was fixable was actually a lost cause once you saw it up close?

Wait, "swiss cheese subframe" on a 2000 Accord? That's wild. @blair_dixon, I never would have guessed those had that problem. I always thought Hondas of that era were pretty solid underneath. Guess it just goes to show how much road salt and time can destroy a car from the bottom up without you even knowing it.

That 98 Civic with rusted frame rails hits home. I saw a 2000 Accord in a yard last month that looked clean from 10 feet away but the whole subframe was basically swiss cheese. Honestly that trip changed my mind too. I used to be the guy saying "just weld it" or "throw a junkyard motor in it" but walking through those rows of parted out cars makes you realize how many people sink way more into a beater than it's ever worth. Sometimes the best fix is just letting it go.

That 2000 Accord with the swiss cheese subframe really drove it home for me too.
