I disagree about fixing that rusty bumper on a 2002 Corolla

I heard someone at the shop say you should always junk a car if the bumper has rust holes because the frame is probably shot too. Well, I patched my 2002 Corolla's rear bumper with a $15 kit from AutoZone and it passed inspection fine last month. Has anyone else here had luck fixing rust without replacing the whole car?

$15 and a prayer, huh? Right there with you. My buddy's 2001 Camry looked like a dalmatian from the rust spots and we just kept hitting it with bondo till it was smooth as a baby's bottom. Passed inspection three years running now. The Autozone stuff is basically glorified toothpaste with metal flakes, but it does the trick if you're not expecting a show car. Meanwhile the guy who told you to junk it probably drives a leased SUV with a bumper made of plastic and self-esteem.
