Guy at a salvage yard in Tucson told me to scrap my 04 Accord because the AC compressor was locked up

I spent $90 on a used compressor and 3 hours swapping it in the dirt lot, fired it up, and it worked fine, so how often do we jump to junking a car over one part that was only a Saturday afternoon fix?

Grabbed a used alternator off a wrecked Camry in a junkyard once for $40. The thing had 150k on it but worked perfect after a quick bench test and a bushing swap. People get scared off by how complicated cars look under the hood, but half the time its just one bolt-on part that's shot. Salvage yards are goldmines if you have a few hours and a basic socket set. Kept that car on the road another 4 years with zero issues.

Those $40 junkyard alternators are way better than the cheap autoparts store rebuilds that die in a year.
