Found out the average salvage yard pays $0.03 per pound for scrap metal
I was watching a YouTube video from a guy who runs a junkyard in Ohio, and he showed a receipt where they paid him $18 for a whole Chevy Malibu. That blew my mind because I always figured scrap cars were worth way more than that. Has anyone here actually made decent money scrapping a car or is it always that low?

Eighteen bucks for a whole car is insane, I thought it'd be at least a hundred.

I see it differently though @victorb17, $18 sounds about right when you factor in how much metal is actually in a stripped down Malibu. Most of the weight is just thin body panels and seats, not solid steel blocks.
