Spent $80 on a Kickstarter for that scifi show that got canceled after 1 season
Back in 2019 I threw $80 at a Kickstarter to revive that space opera show with the blue aliens. They promised a movie to wrap it up. The creator took the money, made a 10 minute short film, and then vanished. Has anyone else gotten burned by these revival crowdfunding campaigns?

a very expensive lesson in internet optimism" yep that pretty much sums it up. It's like the same pattern with everything now - from kickstarters to those meal kit services that charge you for a whole week and then send you three meals. People get excited about a promise and throw money at it before they see any real results. I swear crowdfunding has turned into a system where you pay for someone's dream and hope they actually care enough to finish it. At this point I treat any campaign like a gamble, not a purchase.

Yeah I used to be way more trusting with crowdfunding, thought it was all about supporting cool ideas. But after seeing so many projects just disappear I've completely changed my mind, now I just assume it's a donation not a purchase.

The creator took the money, made a 10 minute short film, and then vanished" - hey at least you got 10 minutes, I backed a revival campaign for a horror series and the guy just posted a single blurry photo of a script on Twitter and then went quiet for 3 years. Guess my $80 bought me a very expensive lesson in internet optimism.
