Showerthought: A chat with a stranger at a coffee shop convinced me about 'The OA'

I was in a cafe in Seattle last month and a guy saw my old 'The OA' t-shirt. He leaned over and said, 'That ending wasn't a cliffhanger, it was a promise.' We talked for like twenty minutes about how the show was building to something huge and Netflix just pulled the plug. He made a really good point about how few shows try something that weird and ambitious. Has anyone else had a random conversation that made you double down on a revival pick?

Honestly, that show's cancellation made me realize how much we treat stories like fast food now. If it doesn't get gobbled up in one season, they just throw it out.

That's such a cool way to put it, a promise not a cliffhanger. My own sad story is I once tried to explain the whole five movements thing to my cat. He just walked away, which honestly felt like a review. Shows that brave deserve more than two seasons to finish their story.

Totally feel that, my cat has judged my taste in shows too. Still stings when the good ones don't get a proper ending.
