Hot take: Deadwood got cut after 3 seasons in 2006 and it still bugs me more than any other show
I watched the first two seasons of Deadwood back in 2010 on DVD and thought it was slow. Then I rewatched it all in about two weeks this past January and something clicked. The writing went from good to amazing in season 3, which ran for 12 episodes in 2006 before HBO pulled the plug. The show was building toward a big finish with the Hearst storyline and then it just stopped. I read that the creator had plans for two more seasons and even a couple of TV movies that never got made. That jump in quality between season 1 and season 3 is the biggest before and after I have seen in any show. Why does nobody bring up Deadwood when they talk about revivals that should actually happen?
