Binged all of Freaks and Geeks in 2 nights, then tried to watch That 70s Show and made it 15 minutes
I grabbed the Freaks and Geeks box set at a garage sale in Milwaukee for $12 about 3 weeks ago, and the way it builds Sam and Bill and Lindsay like real people hooked me way harder than That 70s Show's laugh track ever did. One season and it got axed while That 70s Show ran 8 years, which tells me networks pick the easy joke over the honest one. What other one season shows got cut before they had a fair shot?
Firefly is the easy answer but it's true, one season and it's still got people mad 20 years later. Same thing happens with bands too, the local openers who wrote real songs get dropped while the radio plays the same 4 chord stuff for a decade. Networks and labels both chase whatever's safe and cheap instead of betting on the thing that actually makes you feel something.
