Warning: People keep saying 'cancel culture is new' but my grandma told me about blacklisting in the 1950s... it's just louder now.

Remember high school rumor mills?

Exactly. @the_thomas, the speed is what changes everything. A bad rumor in the cafeteria might ruin your week. Now a TikTok lie can get you fired by lunch. The scale is global but the damage is just as personal. It's the same ugly gossip, just with a bigger, faster megaphone.

Your grandma is right on the money. The tools have just changed from whispered names at a studio gate to a trending hashtag. Makes me feel old to remember when a bad review was just a letter to the editor and not a global pile-on. The human urge to publicly shame is a real constant, for better or worse. Guess some things never change, they just get a faster internet connection.
