That time I got canceled for recommending a $15 book on LinkedIn

I posted about a self-help book I actually read last summer and someone commented saying I was promoting toxic productivity culture. The thread got 47 replies in two hours, half calling me out for being insensitive to burnout. I think people mix up sharing a tool vs endorsing a lifestyle, and the nuance gets lost real fast. Has anyone else had a simple recommendation blow up like that?

promoting toxic productivity culture" is such a loaded phrase though. I mean, who gets to decide what's toxic about someone just saying a book helped them get their shit together a little bit?

Look who's deciding what's toxic now, sounds like we need a committee meeting and a 47 page handbook for that too lol. I swear people just want to be mad about anything, like sorry for not staying in bed all day? Last time I checked reading a book and trying to do better was still allowed without a trigger warning. But yeah sure, let's call basic self improvement "toxic" so nobody has to feel bad about scrolling TikTok for 6 hours instead. The bar for what's considered harmful keeps getting lower and lower honestly.
