Picked calling out a buddy's bad take instead of staying quiet at a party last Saturday

I called him out on his 'cancel culture is killing comedy' rant and he got pissed, but two other people thanked me later - has anyone else had a friendship get awkward after a public disagreement like that?

My buddy Dan and I almost came to blows at a bowling alley over whether pineapple belongs on pizza. It was stupid. We're both grown men. But for like three months afterward he'd always bring it up passive-aggressively, like "oh I guess you're the type who ruins a Hawaiian pizza." We got over it eventually but man it was weird. Some topics just stick around longer than they should.

Does this person actually think one weird conversation ruins everything? I've had friends say dumb stuff, I've said dumb stuff, we're still friends. If you can't get past one awkward silence or a cringey joke then the friendship was probably already on thin ice. Real friendships survive bad conversations.
