My old boss on 5th tried to get me fired over a joke at happy hour, and 9 people watched it happen
Six months ago at a bar on 5th, I made a dumb joke about our company's new logo and my boss heard it, pulled me aside two days later, and demanded I apologize in front of our 9 person team. I did apologize, mostly to keep my health insurance, but the part that stuck with me is that nobody else said a word, not even the coworker who laughed at the joke first. Should a joke said at a bar after hours really follow you into work like that, or was my boss just flexing?
Watched a buddy go through almost the same thing last year. He cracked a joke about his manager's weird parking spot obsession at a bar on a Friday, and by Monday two people had already told the manager before he even walked in. The wild part was one of the people who snitched had been laughing the hardest at the joke. He got pulled into a meeting and had to do the whole fake apology thing too, and the guy who laughed just sat there staring at his shoes. It taught me that after hours stuff only stays after hours if nobody there wants something from your boss.
