Just heard a podcaster admit they faked a callout for views

I was listening to a true crime podcast last night and the host casually mentioned that they staged a public callout of a small business owner just to get engagement. It made me wonder how much of this cancel culture stuff is actually real and how much is just for clicks. Has anyone else caught a creator admitting something like that?

Wait, so we're all just supposed to take these internet court cases seriously when even the judges are admitting they're making the whole thing up for likes?

Two years ago I actually worked with a small business that got targeted by one of those staged callouts. The creator said they found a "scam artist" but it was just a lady who misspelled something on an invoice. The damage was done before the truth came out. That business lost about 40 grand in sales over three months. The podcaster never apologized publicly either. So yeah, I think most of these outrage videos are just manufactured drama from the start. Gotta wonder how many careers have been wrecked for a creator's paycheck.
