I used to jump on every call-out thread, but after the whole thing with that baker in my town got messy, I stopped. Now I just watch.

That "watching from the sidelines" feeling is exactly why I stopped commenting on local news sites. Saw a huge argument about a new bike lane, jumped in with what I thought was a simple fact about the planning meeting. Next thing I know, I'm getting tagged by strangers telling me I want children to get hit by cars. It wasn't even my main point. Just closed the tab and never went back. Now I figure if I don't type anything, they can't put words in my mouth.

Oh for sure. I got burned real bad trying to defend a local teacher online, the details were way more complicated than the first post made it seem. Now I just read the threads and don't touch the keyboard, it's safer.
