I finally saw a cancellation happen to someone I actually knew in college
This girl from my dorm got called out on Twitter last month for an old blog post from 2015. She made a dumb joke about cultural appropriation that was super cringe, honestly. I remember her being pretty nice in person, but the screenshots got shared like 4,000 times. She ended up deleting her whole social media and lost her freelance writing gig. It made me wonder if people really change in 8 years or if we're just stuck with our worst moments forever. Has anyone else watched someone they knew personally get wiped out like this?

Four thousand shares over a joke from 2015 seems excessive honestly.

Man, four thousand shares does feel like a lot for an old joke. @julia_miller24, I once had a tweet from years ago go viral out of nowhere and I just deleted it to stop the noise. Sometimes killing it is the easiest way to move on.

Haha, tell me about it. I had a photo of my dog from 2016 get recycled on some "dog humor" account last year and it was like watching a slow motion car crash. You can't explain to people that the joke is dead because you made it and moved on. Deleting it is the nuclear option but sometimes you just have to pull the plug and let the algorithm find a fresh corpse.
