Cancelled a comedy show I paid $60 for before I even got there
Bought tickets for an upcoming Nate Bargatze show back in February. Paid $60 each for two seats. Then I saw some old tweets of his from 2012 where he made a joke about the pandemic that aged really badly. People online were calling for him to be cancelled. I panicked and sold the tickets on StubHub for a loss. Next week he sold out Madison Square Garden. Nobody actually cared. Has anyone else jumped the gun on cancelling someone because of internet noise?

Gotta push back here. You jumped from "he made a mildly dated joke" to "sell the tickets at a loss" without checking if anyone actually cared. I've been online long enough to see that Twitter drama rarely translates to real world consequences. People who get canceled on social media still sell out arenas and get Netflix specials. Maybe take a breath next time and see if the outrage is actually real people or just a handful of loud accounts. Your wallet would thank you.

I did something similar a couple years back with a comedian I used to follow... saw some tweets that rubbed me the wrong way and almost sold my tickets for a show he had coming up. But I waited a week and talked to some friends who were going too, and none of them even knew what I was talking about. The show sold out and everyone had a great time, and I would've been out the money and missed a fun night over something that literally nobody else remembered by then. So yeah, you're right... the internet mob moves fast but most people just don't care about that stuff in real life.

Did you notice how @laura_wright also brought up the point that people at the actual show had zero clue about the tweets? I've found that the internet outrage bubble rarely pops in real life, and most folks are just there to have a good time without caring about some post from three years ago. It's like that mob moves so fast that by the time you decide to act on it, everyone else has already moved on to the next thing.
